Our Clean Living Swaps

I know how hard it is to find brands you can trust, and I’m hoping this list will help you find some trustworthy swaps for your family without all of the hassle and wasted money. I’ll continue to update this post as I switch out more of our products.

Dry Shampoo: DIY Dry Shampoo

Ingredients:

1/4 cup arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)

Cocoa powder (this is for dark hair only - use as much as you need to match your hair color)

1 Tablespoon baking soda

Optional: 2 drops each: Lavender Essential Oil (supports hair growth) Cedarwood Essential Oil (supports hair strength). (Click HERE for $10 off Plant Therapy Essential Oils)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients in an empty mason jar or spice jar. I use a makeup brush to brush it into my hair at the roots and let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the oils. Then I use my fingers or a brush to brush it through my hair or flip my head over and use my hair dryer on the coolest setting to help disperse the powder.

Hair Spray / Volumizing Spray / Texture Spray / Hair Gel: DIY Hair Spray / Texture Spray

Ingredients:

1 cup hot distilled water

1.5 Tablespoon Epsom Salt

1/4 tsp sea salt

1 Tablespoon White Sugar

1tsp Aloe Vera

Directions:

Heat the distilled water (don’t boil). Add all ingredients into the hot water & stir until dissolved. Pour mixture into a glass spray bottle. I use this on myself after I shower while my hair is still damp or after I curl my hair, just like hairspray. The texture lasts 3+ days! I use it on Locke’s dry hair instead of hair gel to spike it and it holds all day as well.

Bakeware: I’ve been slowly switching over to all stainless steel and cast iron. My husband and I researched the following items and these are what we feel comfortable with, although I’m sure there are even cleaner options out there. I’ll add to this list as we switch out more of our dishes.

These are the items we currently own: Muffin Pan, Muffin Baking Cups, 12 inch Cast Iron Skillet, Baking Parchment

That’s all I have for now. I’ll continue to add to this post as I think of other swaps we’ve made or find new products that we love. I hope this was helpful to a few mamas out there!
