I love creating capsule wardrobes for my kids and I have so much fun putting them together. I was asked to share Alivia’s Fall Capsule wardrobe, so here it is!

If you’re wondering what a capsule wardrobe is, it’s basically just a smaller wardrobe made up of pieces that can be mixed and matched to create multiple looks.

I tend to call our capsule wardrobes “capsule-ish wardrobes,” because I don’t stick to a certain number of pieces or anything like that. I buy what we need, try to stay minimal, and purchase quality over quantity.

I was asked to share my process for creating capsule wardrobes for my kids, so I’ll try to break down my thought process below:

  1. First, I look on Pinterest for inspiration. For Liv’s fall capsule wardrobe, I just searched, “Baby Girl Fall Outfits.” I pinned a few styles that stuck out to me, and got an idea of the outfits I wanted to re-create.

  2. Then I looked on Pinterest for color palette ideas. I found a website called Tono + Co that sells textiles & I used their custom colors as inspiration for Liv’s wardrobe.

  3. Next, I made a list of the items I would need. The numbers are just estimates of what I THINK we’ll need. I always start by buying less and then if we end up needing more, I’ll order more later. The list included:

  • Sweaters (4-5)

  • Dresses (2)

  • Shirts/onesies for layering (5-7)

  • Bloomers (4)

  • Leggings (5-7)

  • Shoes (1)

  • Pajamas (I didn’t include her pajamas in the photo below, but I get all of the kids’ pajamas from Primary.com. They are the best quality and they have the best customer service. I think they were the first company I ever did a collaboration with and they are seriously the kindest company to work with. I always know that whatever I buy from them will last through multiple kids (Liv has worn a ton of Locke’s old Primary clothes). Use code PRIMARYJESSIEM16 at checkout for 25% off.

4. Next I searched on Amazon, Target, and Old Navy to see if they had any of the items I had in mind (specifically sweaters / undershirts, shoes etc.). I found a few great sweaters from Target. The hard part with Target and bigger stores like that is that their color selections aren’t as big as smaller shops. I don’t know why, they just tend to have brighter/bolder colors vs the soft/neutrals that I prefer. I like neutrals because they can be mixed and matched easier and they photograph really well. It’s just my personal preference :)

I check at stores like Target and Old Navy first, and then I head to sites like Zara, H&M (which is very budget friendly also), Jamie Kay, and small shops.

I had a budget in mind and instead of scrolling through all of the pages window shopping, I went straight to the categories I knew I was looking for (sweaters, dresses, bloomers). I think this helped me stay on track and not buy extras. Kid’s clothes are way too cute. haha

I also ordered everything slightly large so that Liv will fit in everything for several months. I didn’t realize how large Zara runs, so she’ll be embracing the oversized sweater look and probably fit into them next year, too!
